HB11 Energy’s Prof. Tom Mehlhorn, today led the way on Day 1 of the 2nd International Workshop on Proton-Boron Fusion in Catania Italy, giving a talk on The ‘Hybrid’ Approach to Proton-Boron Inertial Fusion.
A member of the HB11 Scientific Advisory Board, Prof. Mehlhorn is trailblazing our simulation effort. His ‘Hybrid-burn’ concept is a new scheme to increase reaction rates. It builds on the non-thermal equilibrium burn concept pioneered by HB11 Founder, Prof. Heinrich Hora, with the reaction now enhanced by similar inertial confinement fusion approaches developed for the National Ignition Facility at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, California. More HB11 Energy presentations will follow during this first day of the International Workshop.
Day 1 of the 2nd International Workshop on Proton-Boron Fusion featured further talks from HB11 Energy representatives and collaborators. Fusion pioneer and member of the HB11 Scientific Advisory Board, Prof. Dieter Hoffman, delivered a talk titled: ‘Where in the Universe does Boron-11 Come From’? Prof Hoffman covered new approaches to increase reaction rates as well as medical applications for the new energy.
Then Prof. Stavros Moustaizis (pic.) from the Technical University of Crete, a long-time collaborator of HB11 Founder Prof. Heinrich Hora, presented a multi-fluid simulation. He described the manifestation of the avalanche reaction, one of the physical phenomena with the potential to enhance fusion reaction rates to gain.
